DJs’ Union of Ghana officially launched

The DJs’ Union of Ghana, the body that represents radio, club and all other types of DJs across the country has officially been launched in Accra.

A Patron of the union Victor Akpeke, said the formation of the union is a step in the right direction.

“I am happy that I did not make it as a DJ in terms of returns or finance but there is an organization that has been put in place to fight the welfare of DJs. With DJUGA, the plight of DJs won’t be the same as I met in my prime time”, he said

He added that he will continue to dedicate his time to supporting DJ talents who are members of the union to learn more about the profession and the rudiments involved.

Interim National Vice President of the union, Hubert Kofi Anti encouraged members to employ a professional approach to building themselves to give a good impression to make disk jockey more attractive. He added that DJUGA will go a long way to change the face of disk jockeying in the country and encourage all DJs to get involved.

Also present at the colorful ceremony which was held at the Sun Lodge hotel was PRO for GHAMRO, Prince Tsegah.

He commended the union for bringing to light such a great initiative and affirmed that DJs, through the union, would now have bargaining power and added that the union is already having talks with GHAMRO for better relationship between his outfit and DJs.

He was addressing concerns raised by members of the union about harassment from personnel who identify themselves as GHAMRO task force and assured members that through the union, their concerns would be addressed.

After the launch, members of the union expressed excitement about the union.

“We are now proud that there is a place we can run to when we have issues” Daniel Badu, acting Organizing Secretary of the union expressed.

Since the announcement of the union, many industry personalities including DJ of the year at the 2020 Ghana DJ Awards, Vyrusky, DJ Ikon, Anduy Dosty, Kuami Eugene, Kidi and Ahumah Bosco Ocansey have welcomed and endorsed the initiative which is spearheaded by activist and DJ advocate, Merqury Quaye.
